SLATEMAN TRIATHLON 2015 So there it is, first triathlon of 2015 completed, its always a relief to get the first one out of the way, I find pre race nerves are always a little heightened, but soon as the start gun goes all that disappears and race auto pilot takes control. What better place to […]
About CHRIS STIRLING
Thanks for visiting my blog. I would best describe myself as a MULTISPORT ADVENTURE ATHLETE and MOUNTAIN RUNNER. I began endurance racing in the mountains in 2012, after years of rock climbing and mountaineering I decided to explore a new way to experience the mountains and entered the very first Celtman Extreme triathlon that takes place in Torridon, in the Highlands of Scotland. Since then I have not looked back!
If it involves long distances, mountains, mud, swimming, bikes and running I will probably be there.
1ST PLACE at the Wasdale Triathlon 2014, the hardest half iron distance race in the world
2ND PLACE at the Celtman Extreme 2014, 3.8km swim, 200km bike, 42km run over 2 Scottish mountains
2ND PLACE in the High Terrain off road duathlon series 2014, a series of 4 races with mountain biking and off road running
Represented Northern Ireland for mountain running 2013 and 2014, in 2014 I raced the Pikes Peak Ascent, Colorado as part of the World Long Distance Mountain Running champs, a uphill only race that climbs to a height of over 4300m.
GOALS FOR 2015:
Celtman Triathlon, going back hoping to go one better than last years second place.
Norseman Extreme Triathlon, I will be racing as an elite here, it is considered the hardest Iron Distance triathlon in the world.
The Brutal Triathlon, an Iron distance triathlon that take place in Snowdonia, the final run goes up and down Mount Snowdon.
I hope you will find my blog interesting and inspiring I will leave you with one of my favourite quotes, „IF YOU ARE NOT IN OVER YOUR HEAD, HOW DO YOU EVER FIND OUT HOW TALL YOU ARE ?” (TS Elliot), train hard and train smart.

CELTMAN TRAINING CAMP, TORRIDON As I write this blog, we are just under 8 weeks out from the Celtman, the first main race of the season. The way I structure my training means I am currently deep into the build phase of my program. Race specific challenging workouts are the key during this phase, the […]
WHINLATTER XTREME DUATHLON After a winter of very successful training and hard work it felt great to be back racing again. Such an amazing race to kick off the season as well, loads of hills and a very technical course, another High Terrain Events masterpiece, it certainly lives up to its name and has to be […]
THE BIG WEEK, TRAINING FOR CELTMAN/ NORSEMAN DOUBLE Apologies for the lack of blogging recently but that does usually mean I have been up to plenty, training has to take priority and keeping focused is key, as I was reminded by a few friends recently. If man calls you a horse call him a fool, […]
EXTRACTS FROM THE TRAINING DIARY SO FAR! Well it has been a busy few months since kicking off training in Dec after a relaxed Oct and Nov. The diary was not filled in during Nov but I did a little swimming, biking and running, taking it steady and just enjoying myself. I knew it would […]
LOCH GU LOCH, BREAKING THE ICE!!! Sometimes a race comes along and captures the imagination, you know you will have to do as it has all the elements that you look for in an adventure, combined with a racing environment. Loch Gu Loch is one of those races! Does it catch your attention?? Inspired by the […]
THE BIG DAY Every now and then I find it good to test myself and stretch the limits a little in training. This is where occasional ‘Big Days’ can be combined with a bit of adventure to give the perfect test of current endurance and most importantly to train the mind. Most important for the […]
WINTER TRAINING, GOALS AND CHALLENGES KEEP ON CHALLENGING YOURSELF!!! Right about now its the perfect time of year to think about exactly how you are going to make your goals for 2015 happen, or at least die trying! I always feel really fired up this time of year and have usually spent a good […]
